  28. Here it is a gorgeous day outside in San Diego (I know i say that a lot...but this year we just didn't get any winter). The tough part is it is TGIF and I am stuck inside doing the accounting (big YUK). I'm sure there are many more ways to spend this fabulous day (playing Hookie comes to mind), but that is the burden and the joy of being a business owner. While an employee can call in sick (you know who you are), I don't get that luxury.

Really I'm not complaining, even though it sounds very similar. I prefer to think of it as "lamenting over the facts". he he. Sure do wish a bookkeeping fairy Godmother would appear to help me along. We incorporated the business last year and it has turned out to be a numbers nightmare...but we are at the end of the process and now I'm sure we will all survive the task...maybe even be better for it....yippee!

So, instead of whining I will remember to be grateful! And I am...grateful for a thriving business that I truly look forward to each and every day. Grateful for the most wonderful, faithful yorkie family a girl could ask for, and mostly grateful for the best, kindest, most darling customers and friends anyone could wish for.

Have a fabulous weekend wherever you are and know that we are thinking of you very fondly and wishing you some "gratefulness" in your lives too!

  34. I'm sharing some wonderful quotes on our Facebook pages so I will start adding them here too for you to read!

""No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich." Louis Sabin
  35. It's that time of year when thoughts turn to the ones we love. And we sure do love getting in new items that we know you will adore....so be sure to check out our new items in the Holiday section...great new things for boys and girls to show their love!

Renew a love spark and show someone you love them by getting a great new look for the month of Love! February has long been celebrated by young and old as the time of year we show our love to those near and dear....don't forget your fur kids too.
  36. Look who's in trouble now (see our Facebook page: facebook/allthingsyorkie). Guinness went and poked his eye something awful and now he has to wear a cone. Our vet sure does love us with three little guys who love to get into trouble.

Be sure to read our newest page: Poisonous Plants (under our FREE Info tab top of the home page). Will help you be informed of the danger your house and yard plants can pose to your four legged kids. Never hurts to have more info, but not knowing can hurt your pets!

Now back to putting those drops in Guinness' eyes....first we have to catch him! He is so smart, he knows what is coming and hides under the bed to avoid us. Poor baby!
  37. Often we are asked "what's new?" in passing or upon a new meeting with old friends. Here at ATY "what's new" is an ongoing theme. We strive to continually bring new and exciting products.

We just added our newest and brightest products yet: L.E.D. Lighted leads, harness and collars. No you can have a built in lighting system when you take your evening or late night walks!

You asked us to find it for you and we did! We love bringing in what you are looking for, so don't be shy in asking for something you can't find.

A new year, a new day and a new outlook....that is our New Year's resolution. What is yours?
  38. We love living by the coast here in southern California....that is except for the mornings that the fog makes us want to stay in bed. I'm sure you understand wherever you live. You get those winter days of snow, sleet and hail....we just get fog. "Coastal Eddie" is his name and he is back. Three little yorkies poke their head up and decide if it's a good day or one to stay in bed (our version of the groundhog you might say). Today it was group decision..stay in bed!

However, work is to be done and all our yorkie friends want their stuff, so we are up and at work in either case. As a reward, the sun has started poking through the fog and there is hope for a clear day after all. Good thing, because three little doggies sure do hate to get their feet wet (yes, fog makes the ground wet just like rain here) to do their business. "Spoiled beyond belief" comes to mind in these cases...I'm sure you understand.

This is a bustling time of year for us both professionally and personally. Parties to attend (for four legged friends and two legged friends), family visiting from afar, holidays gifts to find and get wrapped, and all the decorating ahead. Exhausting us already....yep, time to go back to bed!

But before we do, we want to remind you that we are offering something special this year (just in case you want to stay in bed too). Our Paw Stocking Gift sets. We have combined the stocking and three toys to make a complete set that we ship directly to you or the recipient of your choosing. That way you can just stay in bed and let us do all the work! Happy Holidays!
  39. Wow! How time flies when you are having fun. Make no mistake, we are always have fun here!

So sorry to be falling down on the job! I just noticed it has been a very long time since I last blogged. No excuses, I just didn't notice.

Today we are being lazy. As in, I have a yorkie on my lap (yes, even as I type now I have to be careful not to type too hard so I don't squish anyone), one at my feet and one curled into my side (and the chair is not that big). Any "unauthorized" move on my part is frowned upon (loudy) by three cozy critters who don't approve.

We don't get many lazy days around here. But then again, we don't get many rainy days either. Today luckily is both of those. As I realized yesterday that we are fully booked with activities (guests, parties & activities) for every one of our weekend days to the end of the year, I realized I might want to regroup to be able to go forward.

So as the season progresses, I would like to thank all our fans, friends and customers for another great year here at All Things Yorkie. We wouldn't be here without your shopping, support and encouragement that we are doing what we set out to do...make a fun place to shop, learn a few things and share the Yorkie experience. No more "falling down" on the job, I promise. I will keep you posted as we go.

Have a great weekend. And I hope you get enough quality "yorkie time" too!
  40. Our friends on Facebook mentioned some of them didn't know yorkies could/should wear pj's at night. We believe everyone is different, and so are their needs and preferences.

But for those you want and need them, we do offer a full line of great pj's. All yorkie tested and approved! We only carry the best quality, softest and easiest to us pajames. Your yorkie will come to love them very quickly. Night can be extra cool on the lowest part of the house...the floor. Heck, it can be the coolest place in the house during the day too.

So remember, if you see your baby with the shivers (or they like to crawl under the covers), there is an easy, affordable and way too adorable solution...PJ's!

  41. Here is the first day of Fall again...my my how time flies by. I want to light a fire and curl up with a book and a "pack" of yorkie's around me! Too bad it's still 80 degrees outside! We love the sun and Yorkies love to lay in the rays and warm their fur, but I have to admit these are the days when I long for a town full of trees on every street (that aren't Palms) and leaves changing into autumn gold.

I guess the lesson here is, appreciate what you do have as there are many who would trade you places....or plan a vacation for each season! (I'm voting for the second one :) A little nip in the air is welcome after a long summer and my soul is thirsty  for the change.

I just returned from the annual Superzoo dog products convention in Las Vegas (where it was way hotter than here), and am so excited by all the great new clothes and jewelry new to the market. I came back loaded with catalogs, ideas and great new stuff and will be loading up the store with bunches of new goodies very soon. We just added many new items right before going, so hope we have started to wet your appetite. Gorgeous dresses, sweater, coats, treats, gift sets and a variety of "bling" are coming your way.

Be sure to join our Savings club if you haven't already (hint...this month is a New Products dream). We want to help you try out many of the new items we are bringing and hope you appreciate the value (we know you do!) that we offer every day. We try hard to stretch a dollar and understand the need to keep our prices as low as possible so you can fit a little something in the budget for your four legged children each month. Luckily, we have really great vendors that understand what we are looking for and are making an effort to keep the great items coming...in a price we can all live with.

So, I guess we will be "falling" into Fall and diving into catalogs, and getting the troops typing their little paws off to load new items into the system in the coming weeks...stay tuned!

  42. We hope you are enjoying our store. Please be sure to check out the links to our favorite rescue organizations.

I received newletters from the Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue group each week. This week I found some good advice I though I would share. We often forget folks may be new Yorkie parents and aren't savvy in the Yorkie way of things. Here is some good info by one of the contributors in this weeks email:

"A valuable member of my animals' healthcare team is a widely respected holistic veterinarian. She has a true passion for facilitating vibrant good health in animals, a passion I share. I asked her if tracheal collapse could be prevented from occurring in the first place. Her response was fierce, unequivocal: NO COLLARS! NONE. People drag those fragile little dogs around by their necks and of course the trachea's going to be damaged. How could it not be? Take off the collars! Don't use them in the first place. Use a harness!"

I admit we do use collars on our yorkies, along with their harness any time we leave the buidling. But the collars are only for their ID tags. We always, always use a harness for clipping on the lead. This serves them well by not being hard on their trachaes and making lifting them away from danger immediately more convenient, quick and secure; gives us better control for escape artists (you know who you are!); as well as making the yorkie feel more secure and confident. If you don't already use a harness on your yorkie, please do so from now on. We offer a great selection so design and function come together for the best selection for the tiniest dogs.

We bring you products that we have tested ourselves and found to be the best the market has to offer for all Yorkies. If you find a product we don't offer, please let us know and we will check it out. If it meets our high standards, we will add it to our product line.

Above all, we wish all our Yorkie friends and family a long, healthy, happy life!

  43. I just wanted to take a moment to thank our many friends who enter our monthly contests. We are so blessed to have so many adorable yorkie friends!

We all gather around the computer whenever a new photo comes in and they never fail to bring about many oohs and ahs. They delight us, make us laugh, charm our hearts and remind us why we do what we do. You are all very special to me personally. Having yorkies in the home is considered a blessing and a privilege around here and hope you feel the same.

So keep those photo's coming...we will do our best to post them all (either on our home pages, facebook or both). We love to share you with all our friends and fans and love to shed a bit of adoring attention on each of you. You are adept at capturing personalities, moods, fun times and nap times. We love them and all can't wait to see what comes in next!

  44.

Live Simply, Love generously. Care deeply. Speak Kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride .

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face for pure ecstasy.

    Take naps.

    Stretch before rising.

    Run, romp and play daily.

    Thrive on attention.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back in the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie in the shade of a tree.

When your happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

    Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If you want what lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently,

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF THE DAY!

"This was sent to me today in an email and I though you might enjoy it to!"

  45. It seems we learn something new everyday. That's a good thing in my book. I have always loved to learn, learn, learn. After all, you will never know it all and sometimes new stuff comes in handy.

I have been learning more and more on social media marketing. (We even have an Facebook page that we have been playing with for a while now; Facebook/allthingsyorkie). It amazes me just how much we have progressed into today's world of social media. We use it to: stay connected, reconnect, learn, laugh, uplift, inform and much more.

We love sharing the photo's we receive everyday from our great fans and customers. We love seeing all the other yorkie photo's out there too. We also really love finding new products to share and bring to you.

Can you imagine what tomorrow's social media will bring? It boggles the mind...woof!

  48. Well Spring has sprung and we all have the fever...spring fever...that is. The yorkies want to chase anything that moves in the yard...and of course, that means lizard hunting is in full swing. The yukky part is that they are actually really good hunters (that is what they were bred for after all), and they catch more that we would like.  All is well until tomorrow when a few parts start fighting back and a look of pure misery comes over each little face. The vet says there is no harm to them eating the lizards, but certain parts don't digest well and until they "pass", it is non too comfortable.

What are you chasing this spring?

  49. Yorkies' Rule...and now they get their own app on IPhone!

    Read all about it here.

It's about time Yorkies' get into phones!

  50. We are always so busy here that sometimes the mind needs room to wander to get the creative juices flowing. At lunch today, I was reminded that we used to offer customized ATY products but haven't been for a while now. Today we added them back in and are coming up with some great new ones. If there is something specific you would like to see, we would love to hear from you.

For now, check out the new ATY Logo items section and let us know what you think. It's very limited just now, but more is coming very soon, I promise. You can have an impact on what we bring in...just give us a shout or response to the blog here...

As always, we love to hear from you!

  51. Working away and I noticed 2 of my 3 Amigo's were missing. Upon further inspection, it seems Moose & Mimi felt it just the right time to sneak off for a nap...wish I could too! Not a good napper, wish I were, expecially while suffering from this miserable head cold. Maybe with enough night time "best sleep you ever got with a cold" medicine I might be able too.  Ahhh, just a dream I had with my eyes open.

  52. It's funny what can get our Yorkie's excited. Some days it's someone walking by, others it's a snack on a tray. Today the fascination seems to be what the wind is blowing around on our back patio, they are sure it is prey just waiting to be caught and devoured. Since we live in San Diego, I always say we really don't have "weather". What we have are various versions of what others might consider "spring". A little rain, a little wind and little fog. On a bad day, it's a little more than a little. All things considered, a great weather pattern.

Our wild life consists of coyotes, lizards, mice/rats and bunnies mostly. As we live on property that backs to a canyon, all of these critters are our neighbors. The coyotes are the only ones we are afraid of (we as in humans, not yorkies) and take severe measures for protection. Otherwise, our three "children" will chase to kill anything that moves. Yorkshire Terriers were bred to be "ratters" in England. Which means they are hunters by nature and over time they have evolved into more domestic creatures. But hunter's blood still runs in their little veins and they never miss an opportunity to go hunting.

They even caught a bunny once (well just the tail really, poor thing) that was almost three times their sizes. Much to my dismay, lizards are a regular catch. According to the vet, they are harmless to the digestive system but we have found they often come back up and play havoc with tummies for several days. Which makes my wonder why they are still so desirable to our yorkies. Then my husband reminds me how often I eat foods that I know don't agree with me just because I enjoy them so much. So I have to say "go get em guys", just because everyone needs a little excitement in their lives.

  53. Why is it sometimes the things you think will be quick and easy are the toughest and take the longest to get done. Case in point: our facebook page. UGGHH!

Happy Day! I think we've got it. So check us out at: www.facebook.com/allthingsyorkie and let us know what you think. If you are very clever, you may figure out a new special just for you....shhh...don't share the info. We want to see just how it works out first. If you find it, keep a look out for more to come..it'll be our little secret...well, at least for now.

Happy shopping and thanks for being so great!

  54. I have been absent from this fine blog page recently. My only excuse is that I am so darn busy these days, there is never enough time to collect my thoughts long enough to write then down. I know, I know, that's no excuse.

The good news is (and I'm happy to report it is very good news indeed) we now have our Facebook page up and running. It has been a real challenge, but it is on it's way. Finally, you all have a place to post comments, photo's of your wonderful pets and keep in touch with us in a more personal way. I am only sorry it took us so long to get it done. The easy things sometimes take the longest it seems.

Anyway, it is up now so please check it out- either by our link button on the home page or go to Facebook.com and type in All Things Yorkie. Let us know what you think, what we can do better and be sure to share photo's of your wonderful pets. It is the real joy of this business...getting to see what wonderful "people" your pets are...after all, it is a direct reflection on you...more so than your own two-legged children I think. No college, no money, no whining for anything other than your love and attention...what a great gift a pet can be.

  55. Rainy days here are what we call "weather" in sunny San Diego...(I know many of you will find that just a bit annoying..sorry). But I kinda love the rain. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sunny weather gal and so are my three amigo's...Guinness, Moose & Mimi.

But rainy days give us a chance to hit the snooze button one more time, really enjoy that first cup of coffee or tea and hear the sound of nature renewing itself. For our area, it also means giving the ground a much needed drink of water (we are arid terrain by nature). It fills up the bird baths, waters our plentiful lawns that don't die down due to snow, and washes the streets clean (my favorite). But it also reminds us to stop and enjoy the changes of the season, the passing of time and what a difference a day can make.

Yesterday, it was a sunny and warm and today it's not. Just that simple. Makes for time to pause on the similarity in life too doesn't it. Hope you have a "sunny" day whereever you are...Woof!

  56. I just have to share this...

IF I DIDN'T HAVE A DOG I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.
All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.
I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, with out taking into
consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would have money, and no guilt to go on a real vacation.
I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians,
as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: "out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave it ALONE".
My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.

I would not talk 'baby talk'.  'Eat your din din'. 'Yummy yummy for the tummy'...
My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.

    I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, O-U-T, G-O, R-I-D-E, C-O-O-K-I-E
I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much (really?)

I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading 'mud' season.
I would not have to answer the question 'Why do you have so many animals?' from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing
they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an ANGEL as they will ever get.

How EMPTY my life would be!!!

  57. If you have been a Yorkie parent for any time now, you may have gotten some bad news regarding your little ones teeth. They are bad...really bad...and must come out. What is going on?

Yorkshire Terriers have this problem in common. Due to the size of their bites and teeth (mouths) they don't get a chance to chew on enough hard surfaces to really clean their teeth. They are often overcrowded from birth. And they are difficult to brush (you probably already know all this). What do you do when the vet suggests you need to take out more teeth than you think should be done?

Do it now before it's too late. Tooth decay can be the leading cause of health problems and even early death in yorkies. If you love your pet, take the extra steps to grant them good oral hygiene. I know that in these times of scares with the food supplies,it is hard to know what to feed them, give as treats and maintenance issues in general. Our tips to you is to give them Bully sticks- organic ones (they are made from extra skin taken from bulls when castrated in case you didn't know.) I know that sounds weird and not all that appetizing, but they are good for them, can be digested well and will give them hours of chewing pleasure. Best of all, it will help keep their teeth clean organically/naturally.Soft food is yumming and they always love it, but hard foods are what they really need for their health.

Be sure to feed your yorkie some form of hard food as long as possible (even after most of their teeth are extracted and they have healed)- they can still chew with the teeth they have left. They need it for their oral and digestive health. Ask your vet for which brands they recommend. We are breeders but not vets, even we work closely with our trusted vets for guidance on all health issues.

We believe information is power...the power you need to help you be the best pup parent possible...Woof!

  58. Don't you wish you could trade placed with your dog??

Some days I really envy these guys. Laying around, chasing each other for a bit of fun, eating whenever they want and napping in the sunshine whenever they wish. I guess I'm a dreamer....at least while I am working on the company accounting (not my favorite part of the business). It is easy to want to be anyone else (or anywhere else really) when we are discontent with our lives.

Do you have spoiled ones in your home as we do in ours? Do you work to support their kibble habit and wardrobe as we do? Do you wish to be the spoiled one on certain days?

Be sure to check our our SPOILED items: shirts and scarfs..... they will let the world know just who is spoiled in your household!

  59. As you know, the 3 Amigo's (also known as Moose, Mimi and Guinness) occupy their own space here at AllThingsYorkie. They have an outside space too, just in case the potty pad by the door isn't working for them. Yet, try as I might, I can't seem to stop the men in the bunch from marking corners whenever possible....hmm. Maybe my next kids will all be girls!

I give them treats from time to time, but not always as they don't need to grow any rounder (if you know what I mean). But, a little treat now and then is good for them and they like it...hey, who doesn't like a treat?  Do you know what is a good treat and what isn't? I'm often amazed when I learn someone is giving something to their dog as a treat that is actually harmful to them. Be sure to check our "Harmful Foods" page under FREE INFO section. You might learn something new about what is good (and not so good) for your best friends.

Today they got a special treat. I had a bite of left over baked chicken and I gave into the stares...(kind of unnerving sometimes). Just a small bite mind you. Now that it's nap time again, I hear someone's tummy gurgling big time. Poor little Moose has the metabolism of a goose (hey now). Just a tiny bit of meat and he sounds like there is a rock band in his stomach. Or maybe he swallowed something alive when we were outside this morning...hmmm. What makes you gurgle...or do we really want to know?

  60. Birthdays are a strange thing really...you feel special because it's your day, but it's really just another day of the year. You try not to get hopeful you will get unexpected treats, hear from old friends, receive cards in the mail and the rest.

What does a birthday mean to you? Do you celebrate your dog's birthday (1 or more)? We do! I know that sounds silly to some, but to us they are all very much members of our family. Do they know it's their special day...that is up for wiser ones then me to figure out...but I do know that they enjoy a little special treament just like everyone else....just like those who admit to liking it....and those who don't (you know who you are!).

Did you know we carry special birthday items just for your pet? Birthday shirts and scarfs let everyone else know it's their special day too! Not just for going to a great pet party....but just so they will get the extra attention they desire and love (just like you do!). So check em out under our Shirts and our Scarfs sections.

Do you plan pet parties? We would love to see your photo's...please share!

I hate to admit I am having a birthday this week...I should be at the age where it really doesn't matter any more...and believe me some days it doesn't at all....but I still like a little extra attention too! So drop me an email or post a comment and I hope you have a Happy Birthday this year too!

  61. Happy New Year! Another beginning to a fabulous new calendar year (we are only being positive here)! A chance to make plans, set goals, re-think and rehash the old to improve the new....

I have been writing away for awhile now and I really want your input! Hey...It's lonely in here! Let me know what you think about what I say, give us your suggestions, thoughts, comments...and let us know what you think!

All comments come to us first for approval, but unless you are really rude(not you!), swear(yuk!) or are unkind to others (remember the "golden rule"), we will approve whatever you have to say. Woof!

    So, let's hear it already!

  62. The rain is pouring down here in sunny San Diego and we now have a swimming pool in our back yard where there wasn't one...hmm. The 3 amigo's feel they have been intruded upon with all that wet stuff coming down and messing up the yard. Now they insist on doing their business in the front yard (which is never allowed of course...unless it's raining.). Equiped with rain coats, they trek out very carefully to test the water and hopefully to find a semi-dry spot that suits them.

We wear galoshes or rubber boots when it rains...so why not for the dogs? Now they can! We have just added disposable rubber dog boots to our store and they are terrific...and so it the price. No taking time having them get used to walking in them, they work right away. Just slip them on and out the door they go (with only a shake or to of the paws). We even have a demo video provided by the manufacturer. Really great idea...wish I had thought of it!

    Happy puddle jumping!

  63. As the rain pours down and we all scurry around like crazy to get the last of the holidays orders out, it occurs to me how much we move. You can sit at a desk most of the day and constantly be moving, or you can be running back and forth getting a real cardio work out. Either way we are a society on the move.

So, I figured it time to make our end of year move too. You can now find close out clearance items in a special section all their own. Only one or two items actually aren't in perfect condition (and they are noted). All items are things we like to move out at the end of the year so we can take inventory and get ready for the New Year to come.

It's time to Move It! And you get the benefits...there maybe an item you have been holding out for....just waiting for the price to drop so you can.....move it.... and make an order! Here's the link to our new section: CLEARANCE.

  64. Hi! I hope you all are having a great day wherever you are. I consider it a great day if I am able to do what I need to, want to and would like to...or any combination thereof. This may sound simplistic to you, or just weird, but I know too many people who would cherise a day not limited by pain, ailments or disabilities (physical and mental). So, I choose to be happy whenever possible. Of course, my yorkies help me do that too.

I hope your pets provide you with joy and laughter and bring a daily smile to your face and heart. Not a day goes by when the antics of the 3 Amigo's doesn't make me smile....thus making it a great day! Today, it is their game of "tag, gotch your tail". Mimi started it and now Moose has the tag. Running from one end of the building to the other, they are soon worn out (yeah!) and happy to go back to chewing a toy or bone. But during the romp, everyone in the buidling is in smiles. Forgotten are the worries of the day, the stress of the season and the long to do list in everyone's head.

So grab a smile. If you need one to borrow, have alook at adorable photo's of yorkies all dress up and you are sure to stretch those facial muscles. Hug your pet and have a great day!

  65. When we have children, we just take it for granted that one day they will grow and up and provide us with grandchildren. But these are changing times my friend. No longer is it the norm to get married, settle down and have children. Some by choice, others not so much. In my case, my wonderful daughter hasn't found Mr. Right yet (a few close calls mind you...but far from the Right one), but hasn't let that stop her from giving into a maternal instinct. It's our fault really, one year we had a large litter of pups and she fell in love with one...so we have Barkley in our family to stay. He is now proudly referred to as our "GrandDog". Don't laugh, we actually prefer it this way...think about it...no diapers (we had already potty trained him with his litter), he travels quitely in the dog bag, only eats a cup of kibble a day and won't ever ask to borrow the car or want money for college.

So, I ask you, grandchildren or granddogs...or both? I am loving the chance to be Nana and still be able to leave everyone home alone while we go out for the evening. No late night colic, no running out to get more diapers. And he is very happily entertained with a squeaky toy and a couple rounds of fetch. What more could you ask for? I am thrilled to be a young (hey, who's counting) Nana and look forward to time with my GrandDog Barkley.

We have him for the weekend as my daughter is traveling to see friends. The three amigo's (Moose is his dad and Mimi is him mom) aren't always so happy to have him stay though. He steals their toys, food and attention. I guess from their prospective, once the kids leave the nest, it's not so great to have them back. We however love seeing him...and all our pups that have left the nest. In a few weeks, we get to dog sit another from the same litter and it becomes a real doggie family celebration much like a human one.

Guinness is the cranky uncle that finally gives in to the comotions and joins in the fun after lots of pestering. Moose is the dad who pretends to get upset when war breaks out over favorite toys, buts winds up just being another big kid who joins in the fun and takes the toy and runs with it. Mimi can be the really B----- (cranky) one...afte all, she believes all the toys are hers, and so is the food, the softest bed, etc; so when pups come to visit they are intruding on her favorite things and territory. She is the noisiest/loudest voice when war breaks out, often the first one to grab an object of desire and running fast to keep ahead of the pack.

Happy Holidays to all and don't forget a gift for your GrandDog...we have lots to choose from and they are all Yorkie tested...just ask Barkley!

  66. Our Yorkies do this special little diddy that we like to call the "happy dance". It's sort of a cross between moon-walking (Michael Jackson style) and something a bull does right before he charges. We have heard many other yorkie owners experience the same thing. Moose and Mimi have both been doing the "happy dance" since they were very young (Guinness "purrs" instead of dances...go figure). Does your yorkie do the "happy dance" or other special little diddy that you want to share? Let us know....

  67. Good Morning!

I got a surpise wake up this morning by some very excuberant (and sloppy) kisses (and no, they weren't from my loving spouse). I must have missed the alarm, because two (of the three) little bodies bounded on my bed to say "hey, sleepy head...get up..get up!".

Since the mornings are cooler now (Don't say it...I know our cooler is nothing as cool as your "cooler"), usually I have to roust them out of their nice snuggly warm kennel to go outside. However, the sun peeked out early this morning (without the usually accompaning fog) and must have caught their attention early. Either that, or they had too much water to drink late last night and really had to go pee...

Either way, nothing is sweeter than bad morning doggie breath (sorry Honey, yours doesn't work the same!) to get the day started off right. My poor husband, how can he possibly compete? Don't get me wrong, I love him dearly and wouldn't trade him for anything (at least not today that is...he he), but puppy love wins me over every time.

So Good Morning and have a fantastic day!

  68. Talking to a girlfriend, who is in the process of picking out a new puppy, it brought to mind one of the things I love best about my dogs, (Moose in particular as we have been together the longest). At the time that I was looking for my first yorkie puppy to give love to, I hadn't yet experienced the full joy of being a yorkie parent. Sure they are cuddly, cute and fun to be with, but mine are much more to me.

Moose has turned out to be, in many ways, one of my best friends. Mostly, in the form of being a therapy dog. What do I mean by that? He and I spend a lot of time together and I have come to depend on him for help with my attitude....in other words...my own little therapist. I know this sounds a bit nuts (according to my son, sane people don't talk to their dogs). Do they? I do. I speak to them many times a day....and not just asking if they need a potty break or something to eat. I divulge the deepest parts of my happiness, sorry, worries and feelings because I know they won't judge, try to solve it for me, or have a difference of opinion (unlike everyone else).

Each and every time, they have consoled me, warmed my heart, shared my joy, and in time's of sadness... they have even licked my tears away...all while asking nothing in return. Sounds a lot like a therapist (minus the licking my face) to me. They listen, give support and help you figure things out for yourself. So I ask "Do you have a therapy dog?".

  69. At the risk of sounding like a broken record...."where does the time fly to" I ask yet again. Another Friday (and yes...Thank- who ever you want- for that!)

Do dogs know what day of the week it is? I had a elderly client (that was buying a new pup) tell me that her beloved yorkie of 17 years had come to her daily when it was time for her to take her meds so she wouldn't forget. Perhaps you've had, or heard, similar stories....dogs knowing what time or day it is. I swear the three amigo's know when the end of the week is near. They can't sit still and are running around chasing each other...as if to say..."hey, it's Friday...hurry up weekend!"

We walk our 3 on the beach each weekend, unless of course it is raining. We love to walk in the rain mind you, however, three little doggies of mine are not so fond of getting wet! It can be quite comical to walk along the shore and have a rouge wave catch them off guard!

They definitely know when we are and when we aren't going to be going to the beach. On any given weekend, they run in circle and jump endlessly until we give in and go...on rainy days, they mournfully stare out the back glass door and sigh. Moose isn't always so calm in the car (shaking like he is going to the vet!), unless it is on the way to the beach...then there is a slight whine to his voice as the anticipation builds for the 2 mile drive. Mimi and Guinness are always thrilled anytime we step out the front door together and couldn't care where we are taking them, as long as it out of the house.

What are your plans for the weekend? If you don't have a beach nearby, take a stroll on a glorious path...be a dog for the day and just smell the air and enjoy the excursion...woof!

  70. I always have a resolution to get the tree and trimmings up right after Thanksgiving, but another year has proven that my best intentions are not enough. Here it is the first day of December, and I work away with thoughts of sugar plums dancing in my head..oh wait, that's another thought I was having. It is very busy in my little head this time of year (not like it's not always busy in there). Thinking of things to do for work, home, kids and all the rest, then heap some more regarding what gifts to give, where to hide it until it gets wrapped. Yet at my feet, sit three of the cutest faces with looking at me wanting the simple pleasure of just going for a walk. Oh to be so sweet and with only the thoughts of what are we to eat and chase..

Do you dress your yorkie for the holidays? I have to say we have a terrible tradition that includes antlers, jingle bells and more....hey! I was referring to taking pictures with the gang in gear...what were you thinking? Our tiny Moose gets the antlers of course, Miss Mimi gets the jingle bells collar much to her dismay) and Guinness gets the Santa Hat (which he tries desparetly to shake off at every moment). It takes a toll on everyone to get them in the gear and grouped together for the shot...I will be posting what we come up with this year...if I can get sugar plums out of my head that is. Jingle Bells away!

  72. On the eve of this yearly holiday, I always take stock of what I am to be thankful for. But why wait for once a year. I started keeping a "grateful" journal many years ago and even though I no longer write all the things I am grateful for down on paper each day, I still pause daily to remind myself of at least 3 things I am grateful for. Many days the items I am grateful for are as simple as that I didn't have any hardships that day or someone said a kind word or sent me a nice email. After all, beggers can't be chosers....as the saying goes.

When was the last time you stopped in your tracks and thought "I'm grateful for this moment"? It may sound like a silly question, but why must we wait for annual holidays to really be grateful and say our thanks to each other? I say make it a daily event and watch how much more happiness factor you have in your life.

Here are some of the things I am grateful for this year...in case you were wondering. My family...daily...for their understanding of my crazy work schedule, for their sense of humor when I need it the most and for the lessons I learn from them daily. My dogs...a very big part of my life...duh!....but also because it is true that there is no greater unselfish, undemanding and always available enless supply of puppy dog kisses and a party of three to welcome me home...even when I have only been gone for 10 minutes! Nothing gives me more to be grateful for on a daily basis!

I guess what I am saying, that while I love this holiday (when else do we get to eat with great abandon without reprisal), I am happy to have the opportunity daily to be thankful and grateful as well. Don't get me wrong, somedays it can be a real challenge to find some little thing to be grateful for...but once you get started and if you try really hard, soon it becomes easier to recognize what is worthy of your gratefulness and what isn't worth even thinking about another minute.

Have a blessed holiday and I hope you find many things to be grateful for....after all, there is always puppy dog kisses and endless companionship by your four-legged children.

  73. Have I mentioned that Moose is the love of my life? (don't let my loving spouse, he is sure it is him). There is more personality and sweetness in a four pound package than I have ever seen anywhere else. I was fortunately to find him many years ago when I was hunting for my first Yorkie. Upon first glance, I knew it was love at first sight. He had a tiny body with that "baby bird" look about him. A real "Charlie Brown Christmas tree" look if you know what I mean. He was five months old and had already had been sold to a breeder as he was Show material and came from five lines of champion stock. Fortunately for me, they couldn't keep him as they already had another breed they were working with and found it too complicated to do both.

When I saw those big ears (then they were in comparison to the tiny size of him) with the hair pointing out the top....my son (who had traveled the great distance with me to see if this would be the yorkie we searched for) exclaimed "he looks like a moose". Let  me explain....those ears with hairs pointing in every directions greatly resembled a antlers on a miniture moose body.

He earned his name right then and there. But we couldn't just name him Moose without more of his heritage included. After all, he was destined to be a stud and many litters would bear his name. We finally settled on Beholda Blue Moose. Beholda and Blue were handed down from the champions in his line and the Moose was added just because. BB Moose would be the shorter version...and now because he patrols the fence lines of our back yard daily and so well..it has morphed into Moose-A-Lini for his soldier like conduct.

How did you choose your best friends name? I'm always curious to hear how the names come about, aren't you? Unlike our two-legged children, we get to be selfish and not worry what other kids will tease them with. We can use names we always loved or pick a personality trait. Looking back over the years and how his personality has developed, I think now I would have named him Casanova. He is such a lover. Many a little girl has come over (to go home with puppies on the way)...no matter how testy they start out with him, he is sure to win them over. Then there is Miss Mimi, his wife. Not a day goes by without him cleaning her face and cuddling up to her. They share their kennel much the same, always hurrying to be first in to choose the "best" spot, Moose will often give it up to Mimi when she gives him a certain look.

Yorkies have more personality than any other breed I have had the good fortune to be a parent to. They are complex, spunky as heck, and very opinionated...much like me...that must be why we are such a great match. Why do you love your yorkie(s)...I would love to hear from you.

May you be loved by someone with paws today!

  74. As I think about the menu for this upcoming Thanksgiving day, I have to ponder yet again "Where did this year go". Is it a sign of aging or are the days really zooming by instead of scrolling as they used to. I remember looking forward to each passing season (even San Diegans have seasons....they're just not as colorful) up until a few years ago. Now the years seem to encompass a month total, instead of 365 days and I feel as though there is never enough time to look ahead.

We were discussing how old our dogs are getting to be and no one in the family could agree. Being the good mom that I am, I went for the papers to prove I knew all. Low and behold, even I had lost count and we had all misjudged the passing of time in the life of our three amigos. They too have been aging as warp speed (cuz' I think I'm still 25...don't you?). Do they have geriatic plans for pets? I may have to investigate....when I check into one for my ever more forgetfull self!

Play time still is an everyday occurance. Don't let them hear you mention the word "walk" or "go" or a real frantic doggy dancing ceremony begins. You never saw so much commotion. You would think they are locked up in jail cells all day for the way they carry on. They get potty breaks every hour of the day, plus we try to walk them all at least once a day (ok, sometimes it's every other day). But just start putting on your coat, or going anywhere near the leads hanging by the door and three sedate little bodies become hypertized and the jumping bean dance begins! I tend to think of how I feel when the chance to go for "happy hour" is mentioned. I too get a little gitty up in my step and feel years younger. Maybe I can understand their enthusiasm after all.

What makes you happy and want to get up and dance? A new pair of shoes will get me out of the chair faster than all get out. By the way, have you seen the new Sneakers , Saddle Shoes and Mary Jane's? OMG! I have never seen anything so small and so cute in my life! When the shipment arrived, we all squealed with delight. (Think tiny doll clothes.) The smallest pairs of shoes don't even look like they could fit a living thing...but they do! The size 0 fit our Moose (black sneakers got us all rolling on the floor laughing as he tried to step up his gait to make the adjustment to having something on his feet); the size 1 fit Miss Mimi (Pink Mary Jane's were irresisble even though she gave me that look I mentioned before about the color pink); and the size 2 fit Guinness (he got to try on the camo sneakers of course!). After the initial "doggy-tonic" state (they all pretend to not be able to walk in protest to the newness of shoes)-they all adjusted rather quickly. Of course I cheated a little. I used their favorite squeeky toy to get their attention. Throw that across the room and see how fast they will go to get to it first and forget all about the protest...LOL.

We decided to offer the new line of shoes at rock bottom prices because we think everyone should have at least one pair in their wardrobe. What do you think?

  75. Does your Yorkie smile? I know it sounds a lot like new moms that swear their newborn just smiled at them, but it's true. Our Mimi has learned how to give the cutiest smiles ever. She is 6 years old now, so she didn't learn to do this right away. She is an expert beggar (up on the honches and paws in position) whenever she wants food, toys or walk. She is also an expert kisser... Let her close to your face and you're sure to get a quick tongue (and if you're not careful-it will probably go right up your nose to your brain...ugh). One day we notice that right before she comes in for the kiss, she raises her lips and makes a terrific smile. Now she will do it on command (when she is in the mood only of course) and anytime she is really happy to see you.

Nothing like having a stressful day, then having your co-worker look up at you from ground level and give the cutest smile.....makes me laugh no matter what mood I was in at the time! And yes, they are here in the office everyday to keep us company and let us know when they approve....and when they don't. Every item is quality...and Yorkie....tested and approved. We wouldn't have it any other way.

I am convinced we would have a happier world if everyone loved a dog (ok..maybe even a cat or two). Such joy, such love and such personality....all rolled up in the cutest packages ever...that's my definition of a All Things Yorkie. Woof!

  76. Awakening to a very foggy morning, the three amigos give me looks that say "hey, it's cold in here...what happened to the sunshine?". I'm enjoying the slightly cooler air but realize that at my feet the temp is much cooler. Miss Mimi is not her usually feisty self this morning. As soon as I open the kennel (yes... Moose and Mimi slumber in a closed kennel-given many choices for where to sleep, this is what they have prefer), Mimi usually shoots out the door and runs to the other room to be let outside...her favorite place. But this morning, she peeks her little angel face and looks up at me and shivers....then I know summer has truly past and "winter" is upon us. I know you laugh when someone in San Diego says winter is here...but Hey! to us it's cold whenever the temp dips below 60.

So we all trot our little butts outside for the morning ritual, only this time it is over in mere minutes. They're back..with wet paws from the fog covered lawn and shivering from the chill in the air. Mind you, they haven't had a haircut in months, so are already shaggy looking, but it isn't enough to ward off the chill by any means.  I throw a fleece blanket on the sofa (because they prefer that spot in the cold) and bunch it all up nice and cozy for them to snuggle together. It works for now, but I soon realize it's time to order my own set of sweaters for the new season.

Although Miss Mimi is the only girl in the bunch, she is far from feminine by nature. Being the Hunter of the group, she often gives me quite a dirty look when trying on new clothes that look a bit "girly". So I try hard each year to provide matching outfits for all three (Moose, Mimi and Guinness) that are a little on the "tough" side.

Last year they loved their little hoodies and didn't object when pulled from the closet. This time I'm thinking more along the lines of sweaters. The new Cozy ones are sooo soft and feel great to the touch. But my son prefers for Guinness (who is his master... or the other way around...lol) usually only lets me get him in military style. What to do, what to do.

What is your favorite look this year? Animal print, military style or other? I must admit that I wear alot of animal print myself. I like the little extra pop it gives to my otherwise very drab wardrobe. I can still wear all black or brown color tones and punch it up with a leopard print sweater or scarf. Maybe we will go with that this time. We just got in more of the Hooded Leopard Safari Vests and they are way too cute and thick, which would work great for the cooler days we have ahead!

Got to get back to work now...I see a slight parting of the skies. There is hope for some rays of sunshine yet to come and we will want to go for a walk soon if we can.

    Have a sunny day!

  77. Moose, Mimi and Guiness were anxiously waiting for me to open the doors for their morning romp outside. Feeling a bit of a nip in our San Diego air is the first sign that "winter" is coming. As soon as I opened the doors, they jet out to their favorites spots. Mimi to search the scent of any lingering bunnies in the yard; Moose to run along the fence line and patrol the perimeter; and Guinness to bark at the corner he has staked out as his command post against the neighbors "big" dogs. And before I have even had my first cup of coffee (which is life's blood to me these days), I have a smile on my face at the sight of the three "biggest little dogs" that bring such joy to my life.

We are close to the ocean, so many mornings we have a lingering hazy fog just waiting for the warmth of the sun to clear it up. But today (unlike our very foggy and cold summer we had this year), the sun is out in all it's glory and the canyon we sit upon is bursting with life. Bunnies and lizards are the main source of movement and the 3 amigos don't let a twitch go without comment. We do still have the dreaded coyotes living not far from our back yard line, but they are aware I am here and not worth bothering with us for most days. The night is their time to prowl, so we can enjoy the morning time alone.

I marvel at the energy three little bodies possess and envy the freedom of movement as I feel my aging bones awaken. I watch Miss Mimi the most as she is quite the adept hunteress and often will catch a lizard off guard for her breakfast if I don't keep vigil. After the first outing, all wildlife are on alert and most will hide out the rest of the day.

Back inside, I pour my coffee and head into see what is happening in the world of All Things Yorkie. I love to see who has visited in the night, check for new business and go about the task of managing my day. Hoping I will have a spare few minutes to keep my promise to myself to make it the gym I just rejoined in the hopes of getting some of my youth back.

I hope you enjoy what I try to bring you with this new blog page, as I have for over four years now with the rest of the store. I am starting this blog as I have come to realize that there is more to this business then just offering great new things and I am trying to keep up with changing times. Although, I must admit, my favorite part is the daily shopping I get to do in order to bring items to you (a shop-a-holics dream). This is actually a real business in all it's glory and it does need lots of daily loving care to thrive. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful friends who visit us often and hope you will join us in our fun. (Hint: be sure to sign up as a Club Member-look for the button on home page-for secret specials, discounts, freebee's and more....)

I look forward to writing more and hope you will let me know what what you think, like and want so we can grow together. Have a delicious day and stop by soon.
